An Elegant Cultural Celebration in Connecticut | Mathu & Gaurav

Mathu and Gaurav

Muthu and Gaurav wanted to have all the traditional components of an Indian wedding ceremony. They celebrated all weekend with different ceremonies and parties; some traditional and others more modern.  If you’ve ever been to an Indian wedding you know that the vibe is a lot of fun! The day kicked off with The Baraat where Gaurav paraded down the grand entrance of the Surf Club on horseback with his friends and family dancing behind.

The Surf Club on the Sound offered many areas and rooms to make the components of the day seem unified but unique. The traditional ceremony took place outdoors using their metal arch as a mandap and then lunch was served on a covered terrace.

Muthu wore a saree in traditional wedding day red for the ceremony part of the day and Gaurav chose a cream sherwani coat. For the evening reception, Muthu donned a cream lehenga choli with beautiful floral detail and Gaurav opted for a traditional Western style suit.

Indian weddings are full of color and try to avoid white as much as possible (given its connection to funeral mourning). We talked about using springy hues of pink, peach, and mauve to soften the traditional red seen throughout the ceremony. Jasmine is given out to wedding guests as a welcome gift to adorn your hair or wrists to  symbolize purity, auspiciousness, and love. Not to mention it makes the whole wedding smell amazing!

The ceremony mandap was amazing and fun to construct. We hung jasmine garlands, soft pink chiffon and loads of florals to make it a strong focal moment. Guests couldn’t stop coming up after the ceremony to take picture with their families in front of it. These moments as a florist are always super rewarding.

Because this wedding was beginning at 8am, our team had to start set-up at around 5:00am! It was all worth it though when we started to hear the loud music and watched the Baraat parade down the front of the Club. We felt like a part of the party!

Kate took interest in my story and the vision I had. The time she spent creating the initial mood board helped convey what the flowers would look like. I appreciated her enthusiasm and her dedication to getting it just right. Taste is something you can't teach someone. Kate has it! I had an Indian wedding and flowers are key to creating the ambiance for the ceremony. She built an absolutely beautiful mandap with a short turn around time and surrounded the staircase with flowers that made for a grand entrance. Many people commented on our reception tables too. She transformed the ballroom with candelabras that held mauve candles and flower arrangements.
